To find the right softener for you, first count the number of people in the household and multiply this number by 140 (the number of litres of water building regulations tell us to allow for every person in the household). Multiply this answer by 2 or 3 (no. of days you would like between regeneration periods). Now look for a water softener with a similar softened water capacity. Generally, 10 litres of good quality resin will produce around 1600 litres of softened water and 15litres of resin around 2500 litres.
Choose a water softener that will work with your lifestyle, like the WS355 that measures your water usage, builds a pattern and recharges on the day you need it to. This type of softener helps ensure you have softened water when you need it.
Gravity fed systems are often perfect with 15mm connection hoses but choose a softener with a 22mm installation kit if you have a combination boiler of pressurised hot water system, if in doubt please ask a member of the Barco staff.
Choosing a 10 or 15litre model from BWT will almost certainly allow you to install your new water softener out of sight in a kitchen style cupboard. Larger model sizes will need to be installed in a plant room, garage or even outside in a special housing.
The cost of a domestic water softener varies considerably but with a typical 10-year lifespan the life cost is usually less than you think, especially if you add in the savings softened water delivers.
